BA have announced a 30% reduction in tier points required to qualify for status, but only for members due for renewal in April, May or June. If your tier point collection year ends outside those 3 months you’re out of luck, for now at least.
If you’re not already close to the target then a lot of people will find it difficult to get more flights in before the end of June so this probably only helps a small proportion of members. It’s really not very generous at all, and will upset a lot of people.
BA won’t care that some people are a bit miffed, because when this is all over they will have even more of a strangle-hold on the UK airline market.
If you were planning to gain Silver with a Qatar Airways trip to Asia and a couple of BA flights then you most likely won’t get it done before the end of June, but at least the new status benefits kick in immediately when you do qualify, so no big loss here.

We understand the substantial impact these unprecedented times are having on the lives of our Executive Club Members. We have taken steps to protect the Tier status and well-earned benefits of our Members.
We’ll be lowering Tier Point thresholds by 30% for all Members due for Tier upgrade or renewal in April, May and June. This results in lower Tier qualification thresholds as laid out below
Bronze: 210 Tier Points
Silver: 420 Tier Points
Gold: 1050 Tier PointsTo ensure our Members still have the opportunity to use their Gold Upgrade Vouchers, Companion Vouchers and Travel Together Tickets earned via a British Airways credit card, we’re applying a six-month expiration extension to any current vouchers.
