Shangri-La Golden Circle to extend status due to Coronavirus

Some airlines and most of the major hotel schemes have recently announced extending status for members in China and in some cases in South-East Asia, and nearly everyone is implementing a relaxed cancellation policy.

I had an email today from Shangri-La Golden Circle announcing that they are extending status for Jade and Diamond members through to the end of 2021.

Shangri-La are much more Asia-centric than the likes of Hilton and IHG, and have a smaller membership, so their decision to grant this extension to members worldwide makes a lot of sense.

If you, like me, have Golden Circle Jade status thanks to the American Express Platinum card, then you won’t be bothered by this.

Here’s their message in full:

Loyalty isn’t a word we use lightly. We believe it can’t be given; it has to be earned. We value the relationship we have with you and would like to extend our warmest gratitude for your continuous support to Shangri-La.

In view of the current COVID-19 situation, we understand that your travel plans may be impacted. As such, we are delighted to extend your Golden Circle Jade status with us until 31 December 2021. You will continue to enjoy your privileges including a 25% bonus on earning GC Award Points and your unique welcome amenities with every stay.

Your health and well-being are of utmost importance to us, and we look forward to welcoming you back very soon.
We wish you continued good health and safe travels.

I have a soft-spot for Shangri-La after I won 2000 points in a competition they ran, which I used for free stays at their amazing hotels in Myanmar, Hong Kong, and Fiji.
